Dominion’s End Volume 2: Aberrant City

Original novel in Chinese by: 御 我 (Yu Wo)

Chapter 4: The Jin Family—translated by Elkin (proofread by Arcedemius & Trespasserby; C/E edited by lucathia)

Bang!

My eyes flew open and I sucked in a deep, sharp breath. The air surging into my lungs triggered a coughing fit, and I started coughing like I was hacking up my lungs. It was only when I finally caught my breath that I had the energy to look around to figure out what had happened.

Every part of me was in absolute agony, proof that I wasn’t dead yet. However, the darkness threatening to swallow my vision was a sign that I was injured very, very seriously. The pain had been bad enough before I had passed out, but the dial was now cranked up a few more notches. My chest had even lost all sensation.

I blinked quickly, clearing the blood that had trickled into my eye. It didn’t help much. I was still looking at a sea of red, but I could just about make out my surroundings.

The first things that came into sight were high-rise buildings. I was surrounded by abandoned cars, and the majority of shops lining either side of the road had broken windows. Garbage littered the road. The city was a picture of desolation.

This is the city? A chill crept into my heart as I realized that I was lying by the roadside, drenched in blood. If I just lay out in the open, a tasty tier one morsel in this city where aberrants roamed freely, wasn’t I just asking to be eaten? Move!

Rolling over took all the energy I could muster. The moment my chest hit the pavement, agony ripped through me, almost sending me back to unconsciousness. Something didn’t feel right. Then, the memory of being crushed by the bird and the sound of something shattering rushed back to me. I touched my chest. The ice shard had been smashed to smithereens, leaving behind fragmented bits stuck to my skin. When I also remembered that my new ice spear had snapped, I wanted to cry. Why is making a weapon so hard?

Chapter 4 Teacher’s… Part 2: Student—translated by lucathia (proofread by Arcedemius & Lala Su)

The following days each felt like a year to Elaro. Every morning, the first thing he did was ask Ed if Vice-Captain Adair had returned yet.

The answer was always negative.

When the third day arrived and he received the same answer, Elaro was already mentally prepared. However, when Ludia appeared before him with a message from the Pope, his mood still plummeted to rock bottom, even though he had already prepared himself.

“Big Brother, His Holiness the Pope wishes to see you immediately.”

Elaro took in a deep breath and said, “I understand. I’ll head over right away.”

Ludia reached out a hand to touch his face, her heart hurting for him. She comforted him, “Brother, don’t worry too much. In just a few days, you look like you’ve aged a lot.”

When he heard this, Elaro forced on a smile, not wanting to worry his sister. “I’ve always looked old.”

Ludia didn’t think so at all. “Nonsense! Big Brother, you’re mature, not old.”

Lin Jian Yin’s eyes widened. “What? Are you confessing to me?”

“No!” Meng said seriously, “This, of course, is a proposal. Didn’t you hear me say ‘marriage?’”

“What?” Lin Jian Yin opened his mouth wide. After a while, he finally shouted, “No way! What kind of man lets a woman propose? At least, that man can’t be me! This is so humiliating!”

“Didn’t you say you would respect me? Can’t I even propose to you?” Meng felt wronged.

“This, this…” Lin Jian Yin struggled painfully from the bottom of his heart for a while. In the middle, he accidentally caught a glimpse of Meng’s hopeful but also fearful expression. Also, his inner clock had already counted down to twenty-something seconds. He replied hurriedly, “Alright already, if you want to propose, then propose.

“I’m willing. Are you happy now?”

Meng smiled so radiantly, so sweetly, that her smile could drown a person. Seeing it, Lin Jian Yin couldn’t stop himself from revealing an idiotic smile. As if he were falling into that sweet smile, even the sky and the earth started to spin. The scenery, the imperial palace, and the crowd in the surroundings slowly blurred together, like a painting that had water poured over it. The colors began merging together, and you couldn’t make anything else out anymore…

A faint sentence drifted over. “Damn! Only needed a few more seconds. This contract is of no use anymore. My work was for naught!”

“Idiot Ah Ye, what’s wrong with that Ezart? What kind of person says that they have stuff to do and leaves halfway through saving the world? There really aren’t any normal people around you!” I shouted angrily at An Xiang Ye. However, after I’d shouted that, he and Briar both looked at me with a strange expression.

What? Why are you looking at me like that?

Briar reminded me, “Aren-gē, you’re also one of the people close to Ah Ye-gē!”

“That’s right, you’re even my neighbor!” An Xiang Ye said matter-of-factly. “Neither Briar nor Ezart live nearby. If we consider distance, Aren, you’re even more abnormal than Ezart and Briar!”

Although she knew that it was something she shouldn’t do, she still couldn’t resist breaking the taboo.

That’s because writing about them was already not enough. She wanted, oh how she wanted more!

She wanted to touch their faces, wanted to see them move, wanted to hear their voices as they spoke…

Listen…

Do you hear my summons? ******* *******.

Can you hear me?

“Yes, I heard you… Mistress.”
