No Hero Volume 9: Endless Days

Original novel in Chinese by: 御 我 (Yu Wo)

Afterword—translated by lucathia (proofread by elisa)

The series No Hero actually depicts a lot of human situations I’ve come across. Each volume typically emphasized a different theme. Sometimes, you could even enjoy the book through the lens of current affairs. But, when it comes to the overarching theme of the entire series, the idea that I wanted to get across the most was this one:

A simple “non” draws a line of separation between humans and non-humans.

In the real world, perhaps there isn’t such a clear line drawn by being “non,” but there are many, many lines of separation.

People always like to draw lines. Those on the other side of the lines are outsiders. Those on your side of the lines are your own people. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We all have biases. We have people we like and people we dislike, just like how humans and non-humans have a clear boundary between them.

Whether something is right or wrong, I don’t have an answer to that. I wrote about this so that everyone can see my doubts and ponder along with me. Perhaps you might even think about the morality of these matters further, and then I would receive more feedback after you finish reading.

I was listening to what was either Melody’s report or complaint—the latter seeming more accurate.

The 3D image of Melody’s upper body chattered on and on for a very long time, making me truly miss the era of cell phones when there was no face-to-face interaction. That way, I could let my thoughts wander or perhaps I could even handle other matters at the same time. Yet now I could only attentively listen to her complaints… I mean, report.

“The Robot Alliance sent another warning: if we don’t give the adjudication squad basic human rights, they will cease purchase of any products from the Sun Alliance.”

I asked skeptically, “Do they truly realize how many companies belong to the Sun Alliance?”

Melody shrugged. “I don’t even know how many there are.”

“Did we not explain to them long ago that the adjudication squad has no self-awareness?”

Big and Little Sun Go Go 50: Experimental Subject

Will: “Readers selected: Stephen counts as a mommy too: Can forcibly bind an NPC from that world and compel them to work for you. If the NPC declines, they can be sealed as punishment.”

Elaro was a little unsettled by the words: “forcibly,” “compel,” and “sealed as punishment.” He didn’t particularly want to use this item. But after thinking it over, he didn’t worry about it anymore. In any case, his teacher would find a suitable use for it!

“What about that professor?” Hungri frowned and said, “Didn’t I ask you to bring him here?”

Elaro looked at Ri Xiang Ye and explained, “Ah Ye said we didn’t need to. He knows more information than the professor.”

Hungri muttered, “He still could have been a hostage.”

But he didn’t continue to insist on it. With the strength Ri Xiang Ye and Liola displayed, along with Elaro’s strength, their traveling troupe was clearly highly capable. Having a hostage wasn’t very necessary.

“We’re looking for 013. Let’s go this way.”

Big and Little Sun Go Go 49: Happy Mother’s Day

“You have to find the King of Aberrants?” Ri Xiang Ye searched through the experimental data. After the assessment was complete, he said, “The strongest monster in the dataset should be number 042.”

042? Elaro suddenly remembered the number they had previously received as a hint: 013.

“It’s not 042, it’s 013!”

Just as he finished speaking, he heard the sounds of gunfire from the room he had been planning to go to. Elaro immediately stopped trying to figure out which number it was, and rushed forward in a mad frenzy. He wasn’t expecting that Ri Xiang Ye would be even faster than he was and pass him in an instant.

Upon seeing that, Elaro felt both respect for Ah Ye and happiness that they had summoned help like him. He quickened his own pace to follow suit.

As they rounded the last turn, Elaro saw the scarlet cloak with a glance. Hungri was turned sideways, using his entire body to shield the child he was holding on to. On the other hand, Liola was brandishing a silver rod and facing off against ten soldiers holding guns. Thanks to his extraordinary speed, he darted among the crowd of people, not giving them the opportunity to open fire.
