There is now a new forum available for ½ Prince fans to go to!
It is a place for fans to meet and discuss the latest chapters (both manhua and novel), ask questions and have them answered, and muse together as a group. It has a gallery of ½ Prince pictures, a place for FanArt/FanFics, and a spam subforum to meet other fans like you.
EDIT 6/8/2009: The forum has been moved to http://halfprince.ipbfree.com/
EDIT 11/27/2010: The forum has been permanently moved to http://s4.zetaboards.com/halfprince/index/
Right, it’s time for update 9 and the introduction of new crew members. Before I do that, however, let me first say…
WOOT! WE’VE TRANSLATED ONE WHOLE VOLUME OF THE NOVELS! HUZZAH!
Right, on to other things.
New Translator and Proof-reader
- First, we have K00ST3R, our latest translator! K00ST3R will be working on V2C7 (just so you guys know who’s doing what).
- For those of you who were wondering who our latest proof-reader is, it’s SHADOW REBIRTH, who has already been assigned LOTS of drudge work /laughs/.
- For those of you who are slightly baffled by why we changed the order of the chapters on the “translations” page, it’s because now that we’re moving on to new volumes, we’re going to keep the most recent chapters at the top so that you won’t have to scroll a long way down later on.
- Some changes made to our notice on the translation page.
- Major changes made to our recruitment page to give everyone a better idea of what is involved for each role.
Right, that’s it. Happy reading as always.
EDIT: Thanks guys for your votes and comments! Here are the results of the poll:
Dark Emperor Team – 44%
Dark Phantom Team – 27%
Either’s fine, I just want to read! – 29%
We’ll go with Dark Emperor Team for now, but please feel free to suggest yet another name – and provide a good argument for it! We’re always open to changing names. The same goes for Wicked’s name – check our characters wiki for more information about his actual name if you’re interested.
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet – that’s what the Bard says.
The question of the day is this: what would you like us to translate “暗黑邪皇队” as?
For those who have no idea what that is, it’s the name of the team that Wicked belongs to. Before you make a decision, here’s the dilemma:
The name literally means “Dark Evil Emperor Team” – so if we’re going for accuracy (and respecting the original intentions of the author) then it’s definitely Dark Emperor Team.
However, many of you are more familiar with “Dark Phantom Team” – the name which appears in the English scanlations of the manhua.
Just in case you’ve been wondering why we’re translating “Little Dragon Girl” into Lolidragon and “Evil Spirit” into “Wicked” (yes, Wicked’s name is actually Evil Spirit), the reason is because the names are still pretty true in terms of their general impression and meaning (in particular, it was requested that we translate “Little Dragon Girl” as “Lolidragon”). The difference between Dark Emperor and Dark Phantom, however, is quite big.
In any case, you get to cast a vote! We’ll go with whichever’s more popular, but do keep in mind that we’re translating the novel, so it’s always preferable (for us) to stick true to the novels.
I’ve left further information in my response to the other comments, so take a look if you would like to understand the differences and the reasoning behind the translation dilemma. Do keep in mind that the novel is written by a Chinese author, so some of the assumptions you might make (unconsciously) might not hold true! (Such as how Lolidragon is more likely to be used as an MMO name than Little Dragon Girl – hope you guys still remember the footnote about Lolidragon’s name!)
Hello, all ye rabid ½ Prince fans!
There’s been a lot of not-so-good news on the ½ Prince manhua front, but there is a huge piece of good news for our ½ Prince novel translations. Some of you might have seen the thread on MangaFox, but for those of you who didn’t, here’s the breaking news:
Yu Wo, the wonderful, amazing, awe-inspiring author of the ½ Prince novels, has given the thumbs up for our translation! The conditions are, of course, to not use the translations for commercial purposes or profit, and to make sure that credit is given to the author.
Woot! Bet you all the other translators and proof-readers will be so psyched when they hear about this. (After three antsy days of waiting and checking my email every ten minutes…)
I know lots of you have been really worried that we would have to stop, so here’s a big “THANK YOU” to all of you who have been very understanding and supportive of our actions! Now we can focus on bringing to you the best possible translation fearlessly. XD
So to all the readers, remember to help us make sure that no one attempts to benefit fiscally (that is, monetary gains) from these free, by-fans-for-fans translations! Especially now that we’ve gotten the thumbs up, there will probably be some lout or another who will try to make use of that…
But for now, three cheers for Yu Wo-jiějie!
Hello all! Sorry to those who thought that this was an update, but we’ve got a pretty important thing to say, so please give this some attention (this won’t take long).
First off, thank you everyone for always having such great suggestions and pointing out our errors and so on. We’re trying our best to incorporate most of your suggestions (so far there’s been the footnotes, Lolidragon’s name, countless grammar/punctuation amendments, as well as the transgendered/transvestite issue, etc) and I’m sure that as we go on, we’ll have more and more new suggestions. We’ve also noticed that it can get a bit hard to read sometimes (with the font being small, etc), so we will be coming up with a PDF version of our novel translations (this was also suggested by Deiopea, thanks!) soon.
What has been happening of late is that (and this has been keeping me somewhat busy) there have been a couple of sites and readers who have requested that we allow them to post our translations on their sites, forums, etc. We’re glad that there’s a lot of people reading and interested in our translations, and we know that if we allowed for our translations to be shared, it would probably increase the number of people reading our translations.
However, we would like to request that our translations (or any content created by us, such as wikis) are not shared, posted, or altered in any way – and at the very least, please request for our consent first. We have spent long hours translating, proof-reading and double-checking with one another on the translations, and our translations come at considerable personal expense (well, time, mostly). We are worried that other sites, forums, individuals, etc may fail to give proper credit (intentionally or unintentionally) to the translators and proofreaders who have spent long hours to come up with this site and its translations of the 1/2 Prince novels.
We would like to point out that from the very first day of the site’s creation, we have put up a notice on the “Novel, Translated” page regarding the posting and sharing of our novel translations. Admittedly, that was not on our main page, so we are putting up this post in the hope that anyone who has yet to see that notice will see this post and note what we have to say on the issue…
We’re really not trying to scare people off or sound like we’re paranoid, but the existence of people like Tazmo (yeah, THAT Tazmo) shouldn’t be ignored, either. For those of you who have found your way here from mangafox and other manga communities, you’d probably recognize this as one of the headaches that most scanlators face… Unlike scanlations, however, it is even easier to spread, share, post our translations (it’s just words, after all, no .pngs, no .jpgs, no 14MB file size, bleh), so it will be even harder for us to keep track of where our translations end up at.
That said, we are always glad to receive your suggestions and come up with better ways to share our translations, or to improve on quality, etc. Also, if you really want to share our translations, then why not provide a link on your site/forum? We’ll be glad to see even more comments… XD
Keep your eyes peeled for Chapter 4! (Doll and Gui’s appearance…)
