Dominion’s End Volume 6: The Unknown Elite

Original novel in Chinese by: 御我 (Yu Wo)

Extra: The Guardian Knight—translated by Raylight (C/E edited by lucathia)

The three people desperately ran for their lives…

Wei Mingyun was responsible for clearing the obstacles in their way. He went with a full out assault, not even thinking of reserving any energy like before. In the next second, they might meet an even stronger enemy, but right now, whether they live to see the next second was uncertain!

At this moment, there were only two options of death—get caught, or exhaust oneself to death. Wei Mingyun gritted his teeth, and decided that no matter what happens, he would burn himself to ashes fighting. Perhaps that would give a chance of survival for the people behind him. That would be enough…

Ah!

He abruptly heard a familiar cry, and the ominous feeling in his heart rose to its highest point. Even though he knew that a second’s delay could mean death, he still stopped to look back. With it, he saw a sight that made his heart tear up, as though it was about to erupt.

Xia Zhengu was being chased by a bunch of aberrants. He rushed past Guan Weijun, and actually reached out to shove her a huge distance backwards, purely just to delay the aberrants for a second.

Wei Mingyun did not even have time to react—he had just turned and took a step when he saw her fall into the pile of aberrants. She raised her head and looked toward them, but even before she could ask for help, she was turned into a skyful of flesh and blood.

“No—”

Hearing a tragic cry, Wei Mingyun then realized that he had opened his mouth without realizing it.

Lai Leqi looked back after the fact. Seeing this, she was completely dumbfounded.

Xiao Jun…

Xiao Jun is gone?

When it had all started to happen, Lai Leqi had observed that the situation was really off. A loud noise echoed from the entire sky—the entire sky was ringing!

She had immediately pulled Guan Weijun to go and look for Wei Mingyun, saying that it was because she was scared and being together with Wei Xiao-gē would make her feel less uneasy.

Guan Weijuan had looked extremely helpless at that, but merely accompanied her. Her heart had always been soft. In the end, things had headed in the worst possible direction—a full frontal assault.

The three of them banded together and fled for their lives. On the way, they met a few comrade-in-arms. Most of them were running, but upon seeing someone familiar they could not help but run in the same direction. From time to time, people got separated, or some people got caught…

They could not have imagined that Xia Zhengu would manage to catch up to them, and it was even more unthinkable that this man could have done something so despicable. Wei Mingyun charged toward Xia Zhengu, and with a swing of his arm, he sent two shockwaves toward him mercilessly.

Xia Zhengu dodged the attack and cursed, “Are you crazy? Don’t you see a whole bunch of aberrants behind us?”

In Wei Mingyun’s field of vision, he really could not see anything else other than his sworn enemy right in front of him!

He roared in rage, “You dare to kill Xiao Jun-jiě!”

Xia Zhengu gave a cold snort and accused, “I just knew that you had a thing with that bitch!”

Hearing that, Wei Mingyun was filled with anger and regret. Anger that Xia Zhengu had caused Xiao Jun-jiě’s death, and his audacity to besmirch her honor with something that she had never done. However, the regret of not having taken Xiao Jun-jiě away earlier regardless of everything else was more overwhelming than the anger.

In a fit of rage, he swung at him with another few waves of shockwaves.

“As expected, you were hiding your strength!”

Xia Zhengu’s eyes narrowed. He had never liked this brat from the very beginning, but Guan Weijun had insisted on taking him in. Wasn’t it just because he looked good? A pair of bitches!

Wei Mingyun angrily yelled, “If I didn’t hide it, would you have tolerated me?”

“Whether you hide it or not, I can’t tolerate you. To dare cuck me, if I don’t crush you into a meat pancake, I’m gonna read my name Xia Zhengu backwards!”

Lai Leqi hid in the corner of the wall, shivering with tears falling down her cheek, not daring to move a muscle. Both Xia Zhengu and Wei Mingyun were very strong. If she were to get caught up in their fight in the slightest, she would be dead without doubt. However, she could not stray too far from them either, or she would definitely get surrounded by aberrants.

The two’s battle seemed evenly matched, and they had to watch out for aberrant attacks while they were fighting each other. They actually managed to clear out quite a few aberrants, leading Lai Leqi to believe that if these two people had worked together from the start, they might have been able to help several people escape.

However, something seemed off about the whole thing. Wasn’t there fewer and fewer aberrants around them?

Lai Leqi noticed the peculiarity of the situation. If just the battle of Wei Mingyun and Xia Zhengu were enough to fend off the majority of the aberrants, then from the start they wouldn’t have been afraid or attempted to run. This simply can’t be right…

She snuck glances to the left and right, and then her gaze fell and froze on one spot. She stared at the sky in disbelief, for that one spot looked extremely strange. It looked almost… distorted? But there simply wasn’t anything there!

Even before she could investigate further, she felt the aura and strong pressure of a top-tier ability user, a bone-chilling pressure that shrouded the entire area. Lai Leqi clutched her arms tightly, her fingernails digging into her skin and her teeth clenched shut so as to prevent herself from wailing.

She desperately tried to keep her eyes open, instead of shutting her eyes in fear. Xiao Jun had said before that no matter what happens, one should not close their eyes. If you shut your eyes, you are simply gambling your life away and letting the roulette of fate play with it. As long as you keep your eyes open, there will always be a few things within your grasp to control.

Lai Leqi opened her eyes wide, and stared as a person appeared from the distortion. That person gazed at the sky even higher and even further away, the hot blazing sunlight not enough to make him lower his gaze.

Under the hot blazing sunlight, a shadow the size of a mountain emerged from nothing…

The two men in battle also seemed to have felt the pressure, as their movements in battle had slowed down. However, as they both were powerful and the pressure was not targeted at them, it did not make them unable to fight. Therefore, Wei Mingyun did not cease his assault on Xia Zhengu, and instead took the chance to attack him more aggressively while the other was slowed.

Facing such a heavy assault, Xia Zhengu had no choice but to fight back. He seethed with a burning hatred and rage as he fought back with full force, wanting to end the other quicker so that he could escape.

Lai Leqi’s focus was not on the battle though. She stared at the person in the sky—they were not flying in mid-air, but rather they were stepping on a transparent thing that was shimmering in the sunlight.

Suddenly the far-off shadow shot out a beam of light toward the person in mid-air. They dodged the beam, but obviously the beam would not stop in its tracks and shot toward the three on the ground.

Lai Leqi’s eyes widened, and she did not have the time to do anything, merely instantly hugged her head and threw herself to the ground out of reflex. Her nose pressed directly on the ground, her eyes only a centimeter away from the ground. The light beam passed over her head, emitting a deafening loud noise that ripped through the air. Still, her eyes were wide open, not even blinking as her sweat dripped into her eyes.

Lai Leqi wasn’t sure how long she was frozen for. It was not until everything was over that she shakily crawled to her feet to check out the situation. Xia Zhengu and Wei Mingyun had both fallen, their condition unknown.

She paid no attention to the two men. And though her whole body was shivering, she still walked step by step to where she had last seen Guan Weijun. However, there was nothing left there…

A glint of silver light caught her eye. She bent down to pick up the shiny silver knife, and silently looked at it for a while. Only then did she glance back to check on the two men.

The light beam had brushed past more than half of Wei Mingyun. His injuries were severe, and his body was badly mangled. A chunk of flesh was missing from his waist and an entire arm was gone.

Just a quick check on him told Lai Leiqi that it was not an injury that she could heal.

On the other hand, Xia Zhengu’s situation was a lot better than Wei Mingyun’s, though he too suffered heavy injuries. Perhaps it was because of their positions that the majority of the light beam had been blocked by Wei Mingyun.

That guy Xia Zhengu was always so damn lucky!

Lai Leqi cursed his good fortune—his fortune to have such a powerful ability, and his luck to have such a wonderful girlfriend. Not only did his girlfriend save him again and again in the apocalypse, later on she even solved the food crisis in the base by farming and raising livestock. Otherwise, no matter how strong Xia Zhengu was, no one would let him be the leader if everyone under him was starving!

But something like good luck was always bound to dry up one day. The corners of Lai Leqi’s mouth suddenly turned upwards. She was still alive.

“Urgh…”

When Wei Mingyun woke up, he saw Lai Leqi trying to heal him. However, he knew that the other’s healing ability had always been weak, and they did not have the evolution crystals to boost her abilities, so she could only heal small injuries. Moreover, ability users recovered quickly and were able to shrug off small injuries anyway, so her ability had always been useless from start to end.

Lai Leqi saw that he was awake. His eyes were clear, but his face was pale as a sheet. She knew. His condition had not turned for the better.

Instead, she gave a smile. “Wei Xiao-gē, since things are like this now, can you satisfy my curiosity?”

Wei Mingyun thought that there was something off about Lai Leqi’s smile, but at this point of time, there simply wasn’t anything that could be considered more important to do. He merely stared at her silently.

She asked him softly, “Did you love Xiao Jun?”

Wei Mingyun fell silent for a long while, and then let out a heavy sigh. He spoke quietly, “Whether I loved her or not, does that matter? Xiao Jun-jiě saved my life. Back at the shelter, I desperately protected people so they could escape. Yet they turned back and robbed me. I woke up in the middle of it, and they actually beat me up, afraid that I would resist… People came and went. I kept calling for help, but everyone ignored me.”

Lai Leqi knew all too well the feeling of having been abandoned by the whole world. It was precisely that feeling that had led her to shamelessly stick to that asshole Xia Zhengu.

But thinking about it, it was also because of it that I got to know Xiao Jun! She suddenly felt a little happier thinking about that.

“Only Xiao Jun-jiě stopped to ask me how my injuries were. She said she would take me away.”

Wei Mingyun took a couple of breaths, and then continued, his voice so quiet, it was practically only sounds of air coming out of his mouth.

“At that time, I swore—If I manage to survive, my life is hers. I would live for the sake of protecting her. I have to protect her—I have to…”

“It’s no wonder that no matter how Xia Zhengu made life difficult for you, you never left.” Lai Leqi said with understanding, “Xiao Jun is your faith, right? Like how Knight Lancelot guards Queen Guinevere. Huh, that sure sounds romantic.”

At this point, she smiled as she said, “Do you know? I was a scriptwriter in the past. I penned many vicious mistresses that everyone hated. Then I made them go through all kinds of miseries and all sorts of deaths. It was cathartic!

“Eventually, when the end of the world came, I also became a mistress, what a joke!” While smiling, tears came to her eyes as she continued, “At that time, I was thinking of all kinds of ways to break up the main couple and become the main woman. I desperately comforted myself, saying that they weren’t married, so I can’t be considered a mistress. This is just based on ability.

“But Xiao Jun never followed the script. I had clear intentions on her boyfriend, but in the end, she as the main girl actually made a move to save me, the mistress. She gave me shelter. She gave me food. It was only for the sake of survival that I had cried to her, saying that I regretted all my previous behavior from before. But she then told me, ’It’s too hard for a woman to live in the apocalypse. Live well, and don’t ruin others’ lives. That’s good enough.’ Tell me, why is this woman’s heart so wide and accepting?”

There was no reply. Lai Leqi lowered her gaze, to see Wei Mingyun’s eyes were slightly open. The light was all gone from his eyes, and he had stopped breathing.

Seeing that the person had passed on, she instead became calmer. However, she continued talking, as though there was still an audience for her words. “Xiao Jun was too righteous. Even if her boyfriend cheated on her, she did not even think about finding someone else. And you were too foolish. You were younger than Xiao Jun by seven years and only knew how to call her sis, not how to steal her away.”

The ex-scriptwriter could not help but imagine the scene.

“If the two of you got together, I would run away with the both of you even if I have to shamelessly be the third wheel. We would set up a small base. Xiao Jun definitely could not help but shelter a lot of people with no combat abilities: elderly ones, weak ones, women, and children… You would definitely get a headache from it, but could only accept it helplessly, and just desperately train to protect her.

“As for me, I would definitely be next to you two, helping you scold her. Helping you tell her not to accept just anyone. Just because they are old, weak, a woman, or a child, doesn’t mean they are all good people.

“But then you would definitely be upset at that. You would then scold me with a cold expression, telling me to mind my own business. Whoever Xiao Jun wants to accept into the base is fine, you can afford to keep them—Aiya! Just thinking about it makes me feel both frustrated and entertained.”

As Lai Leqi narrated the scene, she could not help but sigh. “If we could live our days like that, that would have been wonderful! Even if we were to face our deaths in the end, I would definitely hug Xiao Jun tight and not let go. I would be determined to be the mistress all the way to the end, so that you, as the main lead, could only helplessly hug her from the back!”

When she spoke about the strange development of the third wheel, Lai Leqi seemed to be genuinely happy at that, and could not stop laughing.

“In the end, things ended in disaster. Xiao Jun did not even leave behind a corpse, and you can only die in the arms of a terrible woman such as me. More than half of you is burnt. Really, what a terrible fate! Xiao Jun mentioned that you’re quite handsome. If you get disfigured, you’re not going to be able to seduce her—”

“Urgh!” Xia Chengu gave a groan.

Lai Leqi turned to look, and smiled. “Hi! You’re awake?”

“Xiao Qi? Help me up, let’s hurry and escape—Ah!”

He wanted to stand up, but Xia Zhengu suddenly felt immense pain emitting from all four limbs. He looked toward his wrist and ankles, and was thoroughly horrified to find that his wrist and ankles were broken, with only a thin layer of skin connecting them.

Lai Leqi leisurely walked over, and in her hands was a small silver knife. She rubbed it against the side of Xia Chengu’s face, but did not seem to be in a hurry to actually cut him.

“Xia Zhengu, do you still remember that this is Xiao Jun’s knife?” She asked, though she also sounded like she was talking to herself. “You probably have already forgotten. She told me that even though this knife is small, it has saved her many, many times, and is more important to her than any other weapon. Later on, she even asked ability users to help her strengthen this knife multiple times in exchange for food. It sure is sharp, to be able to cut through an ability user’s body.”

“This is your doing!” Xia Chengu flew into a rage and shouted.

As she felt the weight of gravity multiply several times over and press down on her, Lai Leqi’s mouth and nose started spurting blood instantly. She spat out a mouthful of blood to the side, and coldly laughed. “Your ability is probably at its limit now? Or else, you would have turned me into a meat pancake with one move. Hmph, Wei Xiao-gē sure isn’t someone to be trifled with. If it wasn’t for Xiao Jun-jiě, there is no way that he would have served under you—let alone play your games with your life-threatening missions.”

Xia Zhengu gritted his teeth, and attempted to crawl away. After all, where there was life, there was hope! Once he recovered, he could come back and kill this bitch. However, the moment he tried to crawl, his entire body started spasming all over from pain.

“Oh, don’t crawl.” Lai Leqi happily said, “Don’t you think your stomach feels weird? As a useless woman, I’m very cowardly. Cutting off your limbs isn’t enough insurance. I have got to ensure that even if you crushed me into a meat pancake, you would still die. If I failed to get revenge for Xiao Jun, how am I to face her? On my way to see her, I would probably get stopped by Wei Xiao-gē mid-way to beat me up.”

Stomach? Xia Zhengu gritted his teeth, looked downwards, and was thoroughly shocked. His intestines were outside his body. They had been pulled a great distance until they were tied into a large flesh-colored knot on the window railing.

No, no, no! He didn’t want to die. He still had to become the top ability user. How could he die here? Xia Chengu bitterly begged, “Xiaoqi, hurry and heal me! It’s all aberrants outside. If I die, who can you count on? They will tear your flesh off bit by bit!”

“The person that I can count on has already been killed by you.”

Lai Leqi coldly answered, and then paid no more heed to the man. She made no move to end him, and just let him wail in misery. She was very delighted to hear this kind of background music.

A loud sound came from outside the window. Lai Leqi walked to the window, and put her elbows on the windowsill, like she was a woman from before the world ended, who was leisurely admiring the scenery outside.

It was densely packed with aberrants outside the window. A cry of despair burst out from her. But in the next second, she smiled.

“Guan Weijun, I am very happy to have known you in this lifetime, my bestie. Though every time I say we are besties, you always look as though you’ve seen a ghost.

“I guess it’s considered a good thing that you left early. Xia Zhengu finally did one thing right— and that is not letting you see what truly is the end of the world.”

She raised the knife high, and then stabbed herself in the heart.

The Guardian Knight.
